Joel Silva - Folhapress / Pedro Vinicius Maciel - AA VS São Paulo 2024Inaugurated in 1890’s as a luxurious residential boulevard for São Paulo’s elite, Avenida Paulista soon evolved into a financial and cultural center, it’s tree-lined mansions giving way to towering corporate headquarters by the mid-20th century. The 1980’s cemented Paulista’s status as a battleground for political resistance and civic engagement, hosting protests, movements, and celebrations that defined Brazil’s democratic landscape. Today, Paulista remains a space of constant negotiation - between commerce and culture, control and freedom, the physical and the digital.
It is within this layered and evolving identity that the A.A. Visiting School São Paulo will explore the intersection between computational design and AI-generated digital art, blending parametric modeling with advanced AI tools to create a unique visual language. How can AI help us navigate an intangible visual identity - one that authentically represents the dynamic vocabulary of the urban environment? By combining site-specific data, AI models, and computational design, participants will explore new ways to interpret and reimagine the city’s architectural and cultural fabric.
Led by Hassan Ragab, an Egyptian architect known for his provocative explorations of artificial intelligence and spatial narratives, along with a team of international and Brazilian experts in AI, urban studies, and interactive design, the workshop will challenge participants to speculate on a transformative digital mediation of the physical public space of the city.
