The Film-Architecture Forum Visiting School is a five-day event, part conference and part festival, designed as a central global hub for anyone interested in the intersection of architecture and the moving image – from academics and researchers to practitioners and students in the field. The Forum will showcase the most compelling work, pedagogies, technical and theoretical thinking, and experimentation in this field.
Throughout the five days, participants will take part in a dynamic programme of keynote lectures, presentations, screenings, parallel events and workshops led by renowned academics, filmmakers, artists, architects and curators.
In many ways, the AA has long been a home for the idea of architecture as a cinematic discipline. The term cinematic architecture was coined by the late Pascal Schöning, a legendary tutor of Diploma Unit 3 who was known for his fascination with time and light, the fundamental elements of film. Whether wearing a rabbit mask, leading students through Hiroshima or introducing Stephen Hawking in the AA Lecture Hall, Schöning’s actions and conversations were always infused with cinematic poetry. Building on that legacy – which shaped figures like Eyal Weizman of Forensic Architecture – the AA Film Architecture Forum aims to create space for a profound exchange of ideas.
The Film Forum offers more than insight: it fosters connection, providing an opportunity to expand networks, sharpen critical thinking and explore how architecture can be imagined, represented and understood through the lens of film.
